Mills, agent. , A Reward, schooner, 41 tons, Westlake, for Picton. Master, agent. The s.s. Taranaki arrived from Northern Ports to-day. She sailed for Port Chalmers at 1p m. The ship Bride of Lome, barque Sunbeam, and schooner Mary Campbell sailed last night with a fresh sou’-west wind. Mi s Davies, Mr and Mrs Hayward, Messrs Ann arid, Prosser, Norris, Hawker, Valder, Miller, Smith, in the saloon, and four steerage passengers, arrived per s.s. Wanaka, on Sunday evening. The Mary Campbell got under weigh yesterday afternoon, but anchored outsble the Hoads. The Olustee was towed out into the stream yesterday, the barque Adelphoi being berthed in her P The Oleander, barque. Clematis, brig, and Cleopatra, schooner, heat out of harbor yesterday evening, against a light north-easter. The Bride of Lome sa led t the Heads yesterday morning, bnt was obliged to bring up when the north-e ister set in. She was still at anchor there at daik last night. The Mary Bannatyne left Hokitika on November 7th with a" light !-.W, wiud, which, increasing in strength, prevailed till the vessel reached haikonra on Saturday at uoon. A strong S. W. then prevailed flvi or six hours, after which a fresh nor’-wester set in, lasti-g till the vessel’s arrival on Sunday morning. She brings the following passengers:— Miss Brat*-, Mrs Phillips, Mrs Parker and family (4), and Mr Sprague. Her cargo of timber is consigned to order. The barque Iris, Cnpt. Burch, arrived at 3 p.m. on Sunday at, the heads, and brought np. running up the harbor yesterday before the north-easter. Left Nowcast eon October 31st with light northerly wea’her, which held across, Stephen’s Island being made last Friday morning; Cape Campbell was passed same evening, thence variables to arrival. She brings a cargo of coal for P. Cunningham and Co. Sighted Emperor brig, and George Noble barquentiue in lat. 38.30 S. 166,40 B. on Tuesday last. The Australian Sovereign, Captain Berry, arrived at 1.30 p.m. yesterday, after a nine day'.-,’ trip from Newcastle, the round having been made in twentyeight days, as good time as it has been our lot to chronicle. In the last eleven months and eighteen days this fine vessel has made no less than seven round trips, a feat which reflects the very greatest credit, not only on the sailing qualities of the barque, but also on her master, Captain Ber y, who must bo reaping a rich harvest for his owners. He reports leaving Newcastle on November 2ud, at 3 p.m.. and having N.W. and westerly winds and fine weather across, making Mana Island at 4 a.m. on the 10th, the weather being then thick; passed Cape Campbell at 9.30 a.m. same day, and experienced strong N.W. and westerly winds, with terrific squalls, along the coast, arriving as above. She brings a full cargo of coal for Mr 0. W. Turner,
ACCIDENT TO THE KETCH MARGARET RUTTER.
[from the correspondent of the press.] Akaroa, November 11. The ketch Margaret Rut er, for Lyttelton, from hero, with timber,'’has just returned with her bulwarks gone, her dingy stove, nml everything moveat.le swept off the decks. While oil the Pillar, at 10 a.m ,on Saturday morning, while wearing, the main boom struck James Henry Bradford, one of the crow, and knocked him overboard. Attempts were made to save him, but the vessel becoming unmanageable, had to be given up. Deceased was a native of Loudon, andarrived in Lyttelton by the Hereford, la-t February. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
