CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

Thursday, October 31. The usual monthly meeting of the Board of Governors was held at the Board room at eleven o’clock. Present —Mr F. de c. Malet (in the chair), Rev. C. Fraser, Drs. Turnbull and Coward, and Messrs H. R. Webb, J. D. Enys, W. J. W. Hamilton, R. W. Fereday, R. J. S. Harman, J. V. Colborne-Yeel, and H. P. Lance. Mr Harman, for Mr Malet, moved —“ That the chairman of the Board be appointed a member of the select committee to consider and report upon what changes are desirable in the arrangements of the College, in order to bring the actual time spent in the College to thirty-six weeks.” The motion was seconded by Dr. Coward. The name of Mr Hamilton was added to tho committee. Some discussion took place on the subject of the chairman being a member of the committee. Mr Montgomery’s name was then added to tho committee. Tho motion of Mr Harman was then agreed to. Mr W. J. Hamilton moved—“ That the resolutions relative to the hours at which led ures are delivered, of which he had given notice, be referred to the College Terms Special Committee.” In moving the resolution Mr Hamilton spoke about the necessity of these lectures being given by daylight. Many young women attended them, and if they had them delivered after dark, there would most surely be a great falling off in the attendance. Women ought not to be called upon to go out at hours when they could not be kept free from insult. The motion was carried. NOTICE OP MOTION. Mr Tancred gave notice of motion that at the next meeting he would move that the chairman should be ex officio a member of all committees. COLLEGE COMMITTEE’S REPORT.
