Police at Addington. Residents at Addington will be glad to learn that in a month from this a constable will be stationed there. This is not before it is wanted, as there is a large amount of larrikinism after dark in the locality, on which the presence of a policeman will put a salutary check. It is to be hoped that the police authorities will soon see fit to establish a police station at Papanui. There is a large population ther«, and Christchurch is too far oil' for a patrol to be made from the depot. The South Line—The Rangitata River appears to be setting northward, and the violence of the flood has scoured out seven piles and two piers of the North bridge. All traffic on the bridgo will be stopped to-day, in consequence of the impossibility of removing the machinery used in the recent repairs to allow of passengers crossing safely. The express train will not run further South than Ashburton, nor beyond Timaru North. With the exception of the break at the bridge ordinary trains will run at the time advertised v on the time tables.
