DRAINAGE BOARD.
Fbiday, October 4. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Christchurch District Drainage Board was held at the office at 10.30. Present, Messrs Tancred (chairman), Hall, Duncan, Harman, Ross, Hobbs. engineer's repoet. The report of the assistant-engineer was read as follows: The work being done by the Board at the outfall of the Ferry road sewer is in a forward state. The sheet piling of part of Bell’s Creek will probably be finished in a fortnight, and the excavating of the whole to the proper level in anoth r fort ight. The contractors for the Ferry road sewer have been considerably delayed by quicksand s for the past fortnight. Means, however, have been taken which are overcoming the difficulty, when the old swamp which extends for about two chains from the commencement is passed, the work may be expected to proceed at a fair rate. Tenders have been invited to be in on the 18th inst., for the brick sewer on the north side of the river. A. Anderson, Assistant-Engineer. The report was approved. CORRESPONDENCE, _ A letter was read from Mr Knight, Orescent road, St. Albans, requesting tho Board to replace the bridge over the drain cut through his land. The Chairman said that the engineer had arranged to put a plank or two over the drain as the bridge referred to in the letter was only an old log. The action of the engineer was approved. BICCABTON DISTRICT. Mr Hall called attention to the necessity which existed for drainage being taken down the roads which were being formed on the Deans estate. The Riccarton Road Board were forming a »lrain part of the way, and if the Drainage Board did this, cutting the drains to the proper level, what was required was that a cutting be made down the centre of the creek, and the Road Board would then put down the culverts which would prevent the roads being ripped up after they were made. Mr Harman moved—“ That the matter be referred to the engineer, with power to act.” Mr Hall seconded the motion, which was agreed to. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £414 17s 7d, were passed for payment. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Leave of absence was granted to the chairman for the next meeting. EETUEN. Mr Duncan suggested that it would be as well if a return were prepared of the expenditure in each district from loan and from rate, with a table of the amounts allocated to each district; such return to include the expenditure which has taken place as stated from 31st March last. Mr Hall supported the suggestion, and it was put in the form of a resolution, and agreed to. The Board then adjourned.
