A telegram was received from Bishop Selwyn, of the Melanesian Islands, saying that he is going to England from Australia. Ten days ago a small vessel was sent to Norfolk Island to bring the Bishop thence to Auckland, but ho has managed to get back to Sydney by the steamer Wentworth, which appiai'j to have left the Bishop at Norfolk Island on her way to New Caledonia, and called for him again on her return. The destruction of cattle oh cue railway continues. Two horses and several cattle wore killed within the last fortnight. AlexanDea, September 27. The “ Gazette” shows the total revenue for the four weeks ending 24th August on the following railway lines to have been as follows : Kaipara, £361; Auckland, £3352 Napier, £1731 ; Wellington, £1491; Wanganui, £955; New Plymouth, £441; Greymouth, £548 ; Wespor't, £181; Nelson, £512; Picton, £370 ; Christchurch, £22,847 ; Dunedin, £7143 ; Invercargill, £3211. The “ Gazette” of September 26th contains an Order in Council fixing November 11th as the date of sitting of the Court of Appeal at Wellington. Ahauea, September 27. Heavy rain has fallen during the last two days. The rivers are rapidly rising. There is no communication with Eeefton, owing to the floods. [FEOM the coeeespondent op the peess.] Auckland, September 27. At a meeting of the Auckland College Board of Governors, a memorial to the Senate of the New Zealand University was adopted. It pointed out that, while several gentlemen recently appointed to the Senate were members of closely allied or affiliated institutes in the southern portion of the colony, there was a total omission of representatives of Auckland College. Mr Fisher, son of Mr Fisher, PostmasterGeneral, is at Hokianga, negotiating for the purchase of four blocks of native land. At the annual meeting of the Athletic Club, the report shewed fifteen honorary and one hundred and six actual members. The Mayor was elected president.
