[PES PBESS AGENCY.] Interprovincial Rifle Matches. Dunedin, September IS. At the annual meeting of the Otago Eifle Association last night, it was resolved to accept the suggestion of the Christchurch Association to establish interprovincial matches between Canterbury and Otago. The proposal omanating from Wellington to form a New Zealand Rille Association was also favorably entertained.

Last Night's Proceedings. Wellington, September 18. ELECXOBAL BILL. After the Native Statement last night, the House again went into committee on the Electoral Bill. Clauses 22 and 23 passed unamended. On olause 24, Mr Saundbes proposed an amendment, under which a member elected

for two constituencies should decide which he would retain williiu fourteen days instead of twenty-eight, as proposed in the clause. The amendment was lost. On clause 24, all the words after the word "him," in the eighth line, were all struck out, so as to allow of the insertion of the words " unless the seat be duly claimed by some person; provided further that if no such choice be made, the returns of seats for which ho has been elected shall be deemed void." Clauses 25, 26, and 27 passed. On clause 28 a division was taken on the question of striking out the words " except previous " in the first line, with a view to the insertion of the word "not." On the question being put that the words proposed to be omitted stand part of the Bill, the Ayes were 42 and the. Noes 5. Clause 28 was amended by the insertion of the words " entitled to be registered as voters " instead of words "entitled to yote." Clause 29 was amended so as to read, in line two—" That he has not previously claimed to be." Clauses 30 and 31 were carried. In clause 32, after the words " lodged with," the words "or forwarded to" were added. Cluuse 33 was passed. On the motion of Mr Wakefield to report progress the ayes were 19 and the noes 24. Clauses 34, 35, and 36 were carried without amendment. Clause 37 was amended by the addition of the words " but such names ae appear to be on the electoral roll then in force and are not objected to shall not be again placed thereon." Progress was reported and leave given to sit again to-morrow. The House adjourned at 1.40 a.m.
