The Customs duties collected here on Wednesday, September 11th, amounted to £556 Ha 9d. The items were:—Wines, £63 12s 7d; spirits, £lB3 9a lid ; ale in bottle, £9 Is 3d ; tobacco, £4417s 6d; tea, £26 15s; sugar, £63 19s 7d; goods by weight, £l9 Is 7d; ad valorem, £139 10s j other duties, £6 4s 4d. The beer tax for the week ending September 11th amounted to £lO7 19s 9d. LAND SALES. Mr Charles Clark reports the following sales in land made by him during tho current week. Three sections of land at Opawa, each containing 1 rood, at £OO each ; a small section on private road, leading from South belt, near Madras street, £l5O ; half an acre of land on Lark terrace, near the Carlton bridge, £1150; a quarter-acre section in Armagh street, near Barbadoes street, £375 : a small plot, close to last-mentioned piece, for £170; 14 acres at Middleton for £1695; a farm of 95 acres at Southbridge for £2375. At his auction sale on Wednesday, he disposed of two cottages on the Wiudmill road, south of the railway, realising £350 and £345 each. Of the property fronting the River Avon, near to tho boat sheds, the following lots were sold
caused considerable competition. On Thursday (yesterday), he had a large attendance at auction, when he succeeded in disposing of Merivale House and grounds, the property of W. H. Lane, Esq. A start of £SOOO was given, but bids of £250 each came quickly, until £7OOO was reached, when Mr P. Cunningham was declared the purchaser. Four of the Avonside allotments, each containing two roods, were disposed of for £l5O each, and the remainder, it is confidently expected, will be cleared within a short time. Mr Joseph Fletcher offered for sale yesterday, at his rooms, Lyttelton, four sections of land on Jackson’s road, the property of Mr T, S. Jenkins. There was a good attendance and the bidding was very spirited, the whole block being sold at an average of £2 per foot. Messrs Maclean and Winter held a land sale at Ashburton on Tuesday, at which there was a large attendance. An improved farm of 100 acres, belonging to Mr Clarke, was sold for £ls an acre. Ashburton town sections were sold at from £6O to £l3O each. Sections in the Waterton Township realised from £ls to £22 per section, COMMERCIAL TELEGRAMS. Wellington, September 12.
