The flue iron barque Ares, Captain Thomson, with a miscellaneous cargo from Calcutta, arrived yesterday morning. She is a handsome vessel of 613 tons (nearly new) being on her second trip. She was built by C. Connell, of Glasgow, and is owned in that city. Her passage has been rather a long one, owing to unfavorable winds having occupied 74 days from the Sand Heads to the Peninsula. Her master reports leaving Calcutta on June 16th, and the Sand Heads on the 18th. Had bad weather in the Bay of Bengal, crossing the equator 28 days out. The trades were exceedingly light, and when they left the vessel a succession of southerly breezes was encountered. When in 47 S. on August 18th, experienced unusually heavy S.W. gale, and from that time had fresh ■winds to thelSnares,(Which were made last Tuesday. Strong westerlies prevailed up tho coast, the Peninsula being'made on Friday. An unfavorable breeze, however,'drove the vessel to the northward, and it was Monday night before the barque neared tho Heads, and the pilot came aboard. She ran up the harbor to an anchorage off Stoddart’s Point yesterday morning. She comes consigned to Messrs Miles, Haasal and Co.
