The Customs duties collected here on Thursday, August 29th, amounted to £7BO 12s lid. The items were .—Wines, £lO6 Os lOd ; spirits, £298 12s lid; tobacco, £230 17s 6d; cigars, £39 15s; tea, £l2 7s 6d: chicory, £2B; sugar, £55 19a 2d; goods by weight, £2 15s; other duties, £6.
LAND SALES. Messrs R. Walton and Co. held a sale of city and suburban properties yesterday. There was a fairly numerous attendance, but the biddings were languid. The following sales were effected Part E.B, No. 33, lots 10 and 11, containing 1 aero having a frontage of 200 links to the New Brighton road by a depth of 500 links, with three cottages, was sold for £762 10s. A piece of laud, lot 108, in the City of Christchurch, situate in|Ly ttelton street, off Madras street, having a frontage of 90 feet to Lyttelton street by a depth of 30 feet, was sold for £9l. A section at the comer of Manchester and Worcester streets was withdrawn at £llOO. A five-roomed house in Worcester street east with hall, known as Godley’s Hall, was withdrawn at £5lO. A cottage at Dovleston, with half acre of land, was withdrawn at £lOl. Mr Charles Clark held an important sale of land on Thursday last at the Southbridge Town Hall, consisting of Mr E. J. Lee’s estate, known as Brooklands, at which there was a large attendance. Five out of the seven farms submitted to auction found purchasers after much competition, at prices varying from £23 up to £27 10s per acre, and the small paddocks brought from £2B up to £4O per acre. Altogether 737 acres were disposed of, realising a total sum of £18,500, and the remaining farms are under offer. COMMERCIAL TELEGRAMS. Auckland, August 30.
