FIRE BRIGADE REUNION.

A very enjoyable evening was spent last night at the Foresters’ Hal!, where the fire brigade held their tenth annual reunion. The hull was tastefully hung with banners, and ornamented with a few nicely disposed pot plants, while immediately over the entrance wero arranged two hose nozzles and a fireman’s helmet, surmounted by the banner of tho brigade, with its appropriate motto, “ Semper puratus.” The company, to tho number of about 100, sat down at eight o’clock to a cold collation, the arrangement of which had been superintended by Mrs Harris. Afterwards, Superintendent Harris, who presided, in a brief speech introduced the programme of songs and recitations, which lasted till past midnight. In the course of the evening the health of tho Superintendent was enthusiastically drunk. In responding to the toast Mr Harris called attention to the presence of Captain Mitchell of the fire police, to Mr Gourlay, Mr Triggs, Mr Atkinson, and several other former members of the brigade, and concluded by proposing “The health of Captain Mitchell.” That gentleman responded. In the course of his speech ho mentioned that he hud been a member of tho Brigade as far back as 1860, and had been captain ten years ago. After adverting to the difficulties both Fire Police and Fire Brigade had to contend with, he concluded by presenting to Mrs Harris, on the part of the Brigade, a portrait in oil of her husband, as some recognition of the kindness she had invariably shown to the members. The likeness is an excellent one, from the pencil of Mr Alfred Allen. The following letter was rend by the Chairman, who stated that unfortunately Mr Conyers would bo unable to find carriages to accommodate the Brigade, however much they might desire to accept the kind invitation of the Dunedin Brigade : Dunedin, August 27th, To t he Secretary Christ church Fire Brigade.
