The Customs duties collected hero on Wednesday, August 14th, amonnted to £775 iz j Id. The items were wiues, £4O Is 8d; spirits, £274 3s 9d; ale iu bottle, £96; tobacco, £157 7s Gd; cigays, £9 3s Gd; tea, £35 10s; goods by weight, £3B Is ; ad valorem, £3B 4s ; other duties, £39 Its 6d. The revenue received for stamp duty from brewers, &c., on Wednesday, August 14th, amonnted to £l2B 18s 9d. At the sittings of tho Waste Lands Board on Thursday, 15th August, 8213 acres were disposed of, realising £16,180. Tho land is situated as under Ashley, 1511 acres; Selwyn, 2573 acres; Akaroa, 11 acres; Ashburton,3o93 acres; Geraldine, 300 acres ; Wannate, 755 acres. AUBTEALIAN MARKETS. Tho “ Argus ” of August Cth reports.—Breadstuffs are moving off steadily, and very full rates continue to be realised. Flour is saleable at £lO 10s. Business has been reported at the price, but tho feeling iu the market may ho bettor understood when we state that sales are now pending at an advance oven on this rate. Wheat is firm at 5s to 5s Id, and we understand that a large lino has just ' fcoon taken up by one of our local millers. Oats are tu*, a t the late advance, and from the advices ■to hand a.c. likely to remain very high. Feeding of ordinary quu.'u+.y have boon sold at 4s lid, and we understand that as td has been refused for the milling. High as tu&mq prices are, however, they are fully justified by thd,„, ws t 0 hand from Now Zealand, which confirms tho u"„. auC e established in that market and reported by telegraph last week. The Arawata brings about 1000 bags oats to this market, with, however, instructions to the consignee to store for 5s Gd. Maize is also firm, and likely to continue so. A parcel of 300 hags was sold privately at 4s lid, and up to 5» is generally required. Under the hammer 770 bags Fiji were quitted this forenoon, when damaged realised 4s BJd, and the sound portion was disposed of at 4s lOtfl to 4s lid. Sugars are in fair export demand. About 200 hags grainy browns and yellows have been quitted. Up to £34 was realised for the latter, duty paid. Sales of Java yellows are likewise mentioned at an improvement on late business. We observe that some 10,000 bags and pockets Mauritius and Fiji sugars will be offered •publicly to-morrow forenoon. The qualities are -superior, and being most syllable for trade purposes, are likely to attract attention. Teas are moving off quietly. Half-chests ordinary congous have been sold at lid to Hid. easier feeling is perceptible with respect to Japan rice, buyers being unwilling to give tho very extreme rates demanded of late. Halves sardines have been iu request, and on tho spot Ss fid could be got; we hear, however, of a shipment to arrive having been sold st 8s 4id. lib. salmon is improving in value, and up to 9s is now asked.
