IMPOETANT LAND SALE.

One of the most important sales of land by public auction that has taken place in Canterbury was held yesterday by Messrs H. Matson and Co, A portion of the property at Upper Riccarton, known as the Deans Estate, was >nbmitted to public competition. The block consisted of 24 acres fronting on Hagley Park, which has been severed from the main estate by the Northern Railway punning through the land. The portion so cat off is particularly eligible as sites for villa residences from its contiguity to tbe city, its exceptional elevation affording unusual facilities for perfect drainage. It is intended to have the streets, which are as laid out ou the plan, a full chain wide, metalled, and the footpaths made previous to being dedicated to the Board. The lots submitted ranged from ;U perches to a quarter of an acre. The total amount realised for The Riccarton portion of the estate was £26 Oil, and the Hagley Lodge portion, consisting of about 3 acres, brought £IO6O. The gross amount showed au average of £IOB3 15s lOd per acre.
