COLONIAL INDUSTRIES.

The pianofortes, to which wo referred a few days ago as having been just completed by • Mr Charles Cutler of this city, are now on view in the window of Mr Thompson's sowing machine depot, Colombo street. This window has just been greatly enlarged, and is well fitted for the display of these colonial industries. Now that the pianos are finished, they present a most handsome appearance, and have been a source of great attraction to persons musically inclined, who bjLi been passing along that way. They have 3%?eivod a most severe test, for during the whole of the day they have been played upon by some of the best musicians in the city, who hare freely admitted that for quality of tone, strength of make, and beauty of finish, they are the best instruments of their class yet seen in Christchurch. The full-sized "cottage" has been especially admired, and a finer and fullertoned instrument has rarely been hoard. We would recommend all persons who are judgei of pianos, particularly those who are of opinion—as many are—that a good instrument cannot be made in this colony, to test the two in question for themselves; they will then very soon have reason to change their opinion. With regard to Mr Cutler, he is to bo congratulated on having turned out such very fine instruments, and it is to be hoped that his enterprising venture »illbea financial buccoss.
