MR GRAHAM'S BENEFIT.

We would again call the attention o? our readers to the benefit of Mr J. F. Graham, which takes place at the Theatre R iyal on Monday evening next. Mr Graham has considerable claims upon the patronage of playgoers, for by continued assiduity and real, right-down, hard work, heh»s succeeded in a very short space of time in so improving hiinsolf as to have come to the very front rank in his profession, as is shown in his having attained the position of juvenile lead at tho chief theatre in so'important a city as Christchurch. Nothing but tjie most persevering industry and the possession of very high intelligence, could have thin advanced Mr Graham, and he'is fairly to be congratulated upon the great progress he has made. But independent of his appeal to playgoers on Monday as a benificier, there is an additional inducement in the fact that upon this occasion Mr Graham will make his appearance in the dud character of author-actor. His first play —a sensation drama in four acts entitled " Quits, or Life for Life"—will then, for the first time, be submitted to a public audience ; and as the piece has been written in Christchurch by a Christohurch actor, it will be strange indeed if there ib not a very large audience to witness it, and to applaud it to the echo if it be worthy of it; for colonial authors are not so plentiful that when they do appear they should be shown the cold shoulder, as is too often the cise, particularly with theatrical managers. We have had successful plays of Mr Darrell's performed in Christchurch, alio of Mr Utting's, and we are glad to welcome Mr Graham among the rinks of New Zealand dramatic authors. We wish him every success, and if popularity Cin ensure a large audience, then he may depend upon a bumper house.
