CANTERBURY CRICKET ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the general committee of this Association was held on Saturday night at Radcliffe’s Hotel for the purpose of electing the officers of the Association and the ground committee. Mr E. C. J. Stevens presided. The Chairman reported that the rules had been adopted, and the accounts passed at the annual meeting. The election of officers for the ensuing season was proceeded with. Messrs Secretan and Stevens were respectively suggested, but those gentlemen not finding it convenient to attend to the duties, Mr Connell was requested to accept the office, and he consented. The ground and finance committee were elected as follows—the secretary, Mr Stevens and Mr Secretan, Mr Stevens having power to appoint a substitute during his absence. For the match committee Messrs Ashby, Fuller, Ollivier, and Stevens were nominated and ballotted for, with the result that Messrs Ashby, Fuller and Stevens were elected. It was then resolved that a challenge be sent to the English players who are coming out, to play a match on the Christchurch ground. It was resolved that the secretary be requested to correspond with the Melbourne, East Melbourne, South Melbourne, Ballarat, the Bohemians and Richmond Clubs (Victoria) for the arrangement of matches to be played between the 28th December and the 28th J anuary. Mr Neilson, in answer to a question, stated that the expenses would be about £35 per man. He did not contemplate that any gate money should be taken. He could guarantee to collect £250. It was the general opinion that the cost would not exceed £350. The secretary was instructed to arrange for sinking two more artesian wells at suitable spots on the cricket ground at fhe proper season. A letter from Mr Q-eorge M. Dann was received offering to cater for the refreshments at the ground. The letter was referred to the ground committee. It was resolved that, from the Ist October to the 31st March, the general committee should meet once a month. Votes of thanks to the retiring secretary and treasurer, and to the last year’s committee were carried, and the meeting closed with a vote O'f thanks to the chair.
