Picked Up at Sea.—The ship Aethelstan, which arrived in port yesterday, ninety-five days from Newcastle, New Sonth Wales, reports sighting a junk on the 29th nit., in latitude 39deg. 49min. N., longitude litdeg. 2min. W. She bore down upon the junk, on which were found six Japanese, two of them dead, the others nearly so. The living men were taken on board and tenderly cared for, and brought into port. It was impossible to learn ihe name of the junk or where she w»? from, as a breeze sprang up soon after, taking off the dead men, and the Aethelstan bore away.—San Francisco Paper, June Bth. A Horrible Story.—lt is said at St. Catherine's (Ont.), among lake sailors, that the mystery of the total loss with all hands of the schooner Magellan, in Lake Michigan, last fall, is coupled with a dreadful murder. The body of Captain Belyea, and of John Sullivan, were afterwards found on the beach, the former with a large portion of the head and face gone, and the latter with a nissing arm. It was suggested at the time that tho fish multilated the bodies. However, in a few weeks tho report obtained currency that the Magellan was at anchor, when an American vessel, bound down Chicago to Buffalo, ran into her, cut her down, and Bank her at night. Not only was the vessel run into and sunk, but both Belyea and Sullivan succeeded in attaching themselves to the rigging of the American vessel, from which they were cut down with an axe in the hands of one of the crew of the latter, part of Belyea's head and one of Sullivan's arms being cut off, when both fell into the water and disappeared. These facts, it is said, have been developed by a confession made by a man who formed one of the crew of the American vessel.—" Quebec Chronicle." SHIPPING TELEGEAMS. Timaru, July 17.
