Thr> annual meeting of the C.C.A. was held ou Saturday night at Radcliffc’s Hotel. Mr E. O. J. f tevens was voted to the chair, and opened the proceedings by reading the minutes of the last meeting, which were confirmed. The following balance-sheet was then road : Season 1877-78. Receipts. tie enswin" season, and to enable it to recover the wear of last season. The work hud been thoroughly well done. He (the chairman) had audited the accounts now submitted, and compared it with the books and vouchers. It was qnito correct. In answer to questions, tbo Chairman said the item -219 Ms 4d for labor did not include anythin" for Napier. The payment for thirtyfive weeks was exclusive of that. "When play stopped Napier’s pay stopped. It did not include the wages of the carters. That sum included what was spent upon the lower ground. The cartage for the low r r ground came to about .£3O. That work was now finished. The statement of accounts was received and adopted. . The Chairman then said that the association had been in existence for a whole season without having any rules, having been managed under a set of resolutions, some of which had become qnite obsolete. It was necessary that those who belonged to the association should have a code of rules. The general committee had appointed a sub-committce to prepare a set of rules, which he would now submit for the meeting’s approval. The proposed rules were then discussed, some of them at consid rable length, and finally the following were agreed to : Rules ot the Canterbury Cricket Association as amended by the sub-committee. 1. The name of the association shall be the Canterbury Cricket Association, and there sir-11 be appointed at every annual general meeting a president and a vice-president, who shall be eligible for re-olecfcion when their terms of office expire. . , . 2. The association shall consist of the members of any club, not being a school club using the ground under a regular arrangement with the association. No member whose last subscription to his chib is unpaid shall be entitled to vote at any meeting of the association. 3. The affairs of the association shall bo managed by a general committee, consisting cf those members of the association who have represented Canterbury in any match, and two delegates from each of the clubs (not being school clubs) who have regular arra gements for ground with the association, oy who have been admitted by the general committee under Eule
4. The general committee slnll annually appoint one member of tho association as secretary and treasurer, who shall generally conduct the business of the association under the direction of tho general committee and sub-committee appointed by it. 5. Tho general committee shall _ annually appoint a finance and ground committee, consisting of the secretary and two other members, who shall have the general management of the funds and ground, and also the arrangement of the terms and dates on which all foreign matches shall be played. G. The general committee shall annually appoint ft match committee, consisting of three members, who shaT make arrangements for all association ’catches, not being foreign matches, and select teams and appoint captains for all matches, except club matches. 7. That members of tho association who have represented Canterbury in any interproyincial or foreign match, or who have by nomination of tbo committee Hkon part in association matches, practice together during tho season, and that the practice shall be known as association practice. The match committee shall control the practice, and may at their discretion admit to association practice any members not otherwise qualified. 8. Tho ground committee shall provide wickets two days in the week for association practice, and wickets for the practice of each club every week day. 9. The match committee shall arrange matches for all Saturdays and public holidays throughout the season amongst the players specified in rule 7. 10. That the general committee shall have power to admit, at their discretion, any club in existence in Canterbury to tho privileges of the associ i.tion.
11. That the committee may, at their discretion, organise special practices, instead of the association practice, to include, if the council shall th nk it expedient, players who are not members of the association. 12. That a capitation fee ho levied by tho ground committee on all clubs (not b eng school clubs) using tho ground, and that all arrange ments for the use of the ground by school clubs and outside players and all charges thereon, be left to the ground committee. 13. A capitation fee shall he levied on all clubs (not being school clubs) using the ground, the amount of the capitation and dates of payment, the amount to be paid by school clubs and as fees for matches and all arrangements for the use of tbo ground shall be settled by the ground committee. 14. There shall ho held an annual meeting of tho association during tho first week in May in every year, to be called by the secretary, to receive the complete accounts of the year, and to elect officers, and transact any general business of the association. 15. No rule shall be altered save at the annual gener 1 meeting The secretary shall call an extraordinary general meeting of the association on receiving a written requisition to do so, signed bv not less than eleven members, and stating the object for which the meeting is called. The Secretary was authorised to get the rules printed. A vote of thanks was recorded to Mr Harman for his present of 100 feet of hose to the association. The election of president and vice-president was the next business, and Messrs E. C. JStevens, and H. P. Lance were voted to the positions with loud applause. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting.
