HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Tho Board met at the Christchurch Hospital at; 7 p.m. on Saturday last. Present The Mayor of Christchurch (chairman), the Mayor of Sydenham, Mr Montgomery, and Dr. Turnbull. An apology was received from Mr J. E. Brown for absence.

The Chairman reported that he had sent a telegram to the Government re Orphan Asylum on Friday last, but had received no reply at present. The Mayor of Sydenham brought under the notice of the Board certain cases of charitable aid in his borough, and received satisfactory replies from Mr March. In one case it was ordered that the grant of 10s per week be reduced to 5s on and after Ist September next.

It was decided after full consideration that in future all cases at Ashburton requiring hospital treatment should be sent to the Christchurch Hospital. Mr Pridgeon and the house steward attended, the former explained the system at present; in force for the admission of patients. It was resolved that the secretary write to the medical staff and ask tln-m to be good enough to express their opinion as to the best means to be adopted for admissions to tho Hospital, or should the staff prefer it, to meet Lhe Board and confer on the matter.

The question of guarantees for maintenance Ac. was fully considered, and it was resolved that the chairman obtain legal opinion as to the best form of guarantee to be given for maintenance, Ac., in the Hospital, It was resolved that the charge for maintenance, Ac., should be as follows : —First week, or any part thereof, £l, and .afterwards 3s per day ; cases in over six weeks to be specially considered. The chairman was requested to communicate with the proper authorities respecting labor for planting trees, Ac. It was resolved that the secretary bo instructed to write to each member of the staff asking them to facilitate the administration of the Hospital by initialling on the diet table each day the requisition for stimulants aud extras for each patient. After transacting further business, the Board adjourned till Tuesday next, at 7 p.m.
