In the match Australians v Eighteen of Swansoa, South Wales, in their first innings the Australians made 219. Bailey made 35. Swansea in their first innings got 9<4. London, July 11.
The Australians won in one innings and 38 runs to spare. The bowling of Spofforth and Boyle was very effective.

[PBB PBBSS AGENCY.] Auckland, July 12. The Orangemen paraded the streets with banners and bands to day, about 500 in number. They went to Beresford street church, where services were held. The representatives from the principal country districts represented hold a soiree and public meeting to-night. The committee of enquiry into the cases of desertion from the Industrial School, met to-day. Four boys were examined. Three said they were not hard worked at all, and had nothing to complain of. The other made trifling complaints. Mr Swanson, M.H.R., stated that he saw one boy, apparently ailing, and asked what was the matter. The master of the school replied, " He won't trouble us long. He's off to kingdom come." The Education Board to-day entered £SOO on the estimates for country libraries. Wellington, July 12.
A "Supplementary G-azette" to-day notifies the appointment of Sir G-eorge Grey as Commissioner of Customs and Stamps,and of Mr Ballance as Colonial Treasurer.
In the action Doherty v Wellington Education Board, for wrongful dismissal and libel, damages were laid at £2OOO. The jury this evening returned a verdict for plaintiff for £SO, being three months' salary. The cable agreement, referring to the reduction of charges on New Zealand cable, was executed this morning by Messrs Burns and Fisher and Colonel Glover.
Mr Burns intends returning direct to Sydney, per Rotorua, after a short visit to Otago and Canterbury. Wanganui, 12th July.
In a drunken brawl at Waverley, on Wednesday night, a Scandinavian stabbed a countryman four times. The wounded man is expected to die. Dunedin, July 12.
Mr A. C. : Strode has resigned the Commißsionership of Waste Lands. The vacant seat was offered to Mr D. Reid, but was declined.

Captain Moir, of the Annie Bow, was today served with a summons for assaulting Sergeant Haldane on May 28th. The case arose out of the escape of the absconder Blythe, whom Captain Moir refused to deliver up when his vessel was leaving Timaru on the last trip. The Orange anniversary banquet to-night was a great success, and very numerously attended.
A respectable young fellow named Macey, was arrested last night on board the Himalaya, charged with the robbery of a number of blankets and money from a private dwelling house. At the inquest on the death of Mrs Meade a verdict of '■ died from natural causes " was returned.
Eversley is a strong favourite for the Tally Ho Handicap on Monday next.
