At the inquest on the fire which destroyed Wutkiu’a house, the jury found that the house was wilfully set on firo by some unknown person, and added a rider condemning the system of insuring properties to so great an extent as in this instance, as being a greatincentivo to incendiarism, the property being old and rotten and could in their opinion be replaced for half the amount for which it was insured. Wellington, July 4. An attempt is being made here to get a party to charter a steamer or sailing vessel for an expedition to Now Guinea. Dunedin, July 4. The Attorney-General addresses his constituents on Tuesday evening next. Mr Pyke addressed his constituents at Ophir last night. He said that he was a supporter of the present Government, and vrould be as long as they acted for the good of the country, but no longer. He strongly deprecated the action of Sir George Grey in endeavouring to get the Governor to veto the Land Bill; also that he would support Mr Ballance’s scheme of residential suffrage. As to taxation, he agreed with the Ministry re taking the duty off the common necessaries. At the conclusion of the speech, he received an unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
