ASSASSINATION OF A NEWSPAPER CORRESPONDENT.
The headless body of Mr Ogle, "The Times" correspondent, was recently brought into Volo, and deposited in the Greek church, for transport to Athene 3,t was found by some Greek villagers. Conclusive evidence has "keen received that he was murdered hy some person or persons, and at no great lance from Volo. It can also, be proved that Turks, both civil military, were cognisant of all the circumstances attending his assassination 5 hence the attempts made by them to delay and, prevent the recovery of the body before decomposition should have made it unrecognisable. Witnesses can prove having seen tho murder, and also the subsequent action taken to hide tho body, and to give con.-istf r.cy to false re- porta circulated by the Turks. The intimidation, practised by the Turk? to prevent evidence coming forward can aloo be proved. It will be necessary that a duly appointed commission should inquire into this matter, and proper protection be afforded to all tho witnesses. Tho head was probably taken by tho murderers to prove to the employers tho accomplishment of the deed, in order to obtain tho reward.
