THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS.

The following list of matches at prosent to hand, which are to be played between the Australian and English teams', is published in the Auckland "-Herald." Two of these we have, fdready got notice of—Notts having beaten Australia in one innings, and Australia beaten the M.C.C. by nine wickets. The list of matches, us given, is somewhat disappointing, as the Col nials meet the Gentlemen only once, and that at Prince's, and most know how the feeling prevalent there is, that all those who have their " blue and colours of the club) should play before all others, and the players once only also, and that at the Oval, and at the very end of the season. The Australians play Yorkshire twice, and besides them (by which match will the bets go) Sussex, Lancashire, Gloucestershire, and Surrey, only from the list of counties, leaving out Kent, Hampshire, Middlesex, and Derbyshire ; and not testing the strength of England, as Btrongly advised to do by "Paul Jones," in the "Australasian." In fact, it seems that, instead of playing legitimate cricket, they are going for the gate money. It is physically impossible for any set of young men to play persistently from May 20th to September 2nd, with, at the most, three . days' difference between each match, especially considering that they are travelling a good part of the time, and that, with the exception of D. Gregory, all of the players are under thirty years of age. Date, PiaCU. Club. May 20 ... Notts ... Notts „ 27 ... Lords ... Maryleboue ~ 30 ... Huddorsfiold ... Yorkshire Jnuo '■'• ... Oval ...
