ASHBURTON AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
This association met in the Road Board office, at four o’clock, on Tuesday afternoon, the members present being—Messrs John Grigg (president), Hunt, Taylor, Bullock, Shury, Bennison, Bell, Metcalf (secretary), and others. The President; read the advertisement calling the meeting, and staled that the principal business would be to consider whether a ploughing match should bo held, and, if so, to make arrangements for carrying it out, also to consider the propriety of lidding a show in connection with the association. A piece of ground, in all respects suitable for a allow ground, had been secured, at Tiqwald, granted by Government, apd he had applied to the Chicj Surveyor to have it surveyed, in view of having it permanently fenced. A letter was read from the Oamaru Association, forwarding copies of its resolutions in favor of establishing a National Association, similar to the Royal Society in England, and to the Scottish Highland Society. Mr Taylor proposed--“ That the Ashburton Association recognises the importance of establishing periodical shows, but, till it is itself firmly established, is not in a position to co-operate with other societies.” Mr Bell seconded, and the resolution was carried. After some talk on the question of bolding a ploughing match, it was decided to appoint the committee of the association a committee to make arrangements for a ploughing match to bo held on the Wednesday in July nearest the full moon, the committee to meet on the 19th of Juno, in the Somerset hotel, to make the necessary arrangements, notice of ouch meeting to be (riven to absent members by circular, containing a request also for the raising of subscriptions. Mr Bullock stated his intention of asking the County Council at its next meeting for a vote of money in aid of the association’s funds, if such vote was legal. It was also decided to place (lie association ground under the Agricultural and Pastoral Societies’ Ac« of last session of Parliament, and to appoint Mr Branson the association’s solicitor in the matter, A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
