The lot arrived at the post in capital time, and after a little maucevoriug they got into

line, and at the first attempt a splendid start was effectt d. The lot ran together for a short distance, when Telescope in the left centre went to the front, and cut out the work, being followed in the immediate neighbourhood by Adamite, Rosy Cross, Cradle, and Suffolk Lad, while more in the centre of the field were Mr Gretton’s pair, Kismet, Twine the Plaiden, and The Ghost; Tonchet, however, on the whip hand of these being in front of Sidouia and Kaleidoscope, while in the rear of the centre lot were Tassel and Chevron. On the left hand Lady Ronald was at the head of affairs in front of Juan and Organist. Before a quarter of a mile had been covered Sidonia and Tassel were seen in the rear, while when the half ourney had been covered Twine the Plaiden began to tail off, and when they came to the junction of the course, Telescope cried a go, and Rosy Cross took up the running from Cradle, Touchet, Ghost, and Organist. Several lengths in tho rear came Kaleidoscope, and Sidonia also passed several beaten horses. At the distance, Touchet, Ghost, Adamite, and Organist were in trouble, and Cradle challenged resolutely for the lead, and, opposite the stand, all but got up with Rosy Cross. While the pair were fighting, Kaleidoscope, who had been hard ridden from the distance, began to overhaul them, and got level at the stand, where Cradle gave way, and for a few strides the issue was doubtful; but Kaleidoscope, most resolutely ridden, fairly outstayed the mare, and won at the finish cleverly by a length ; three lengths off, Cradle was third ; two in front of Touchet, who was placed fourth ; then came Sidonia fifth, in front of Organist, Suffolk Lad, Trommel, Chevron, Lina, Ithona, Sulieman, Antient Pistol, and Lady Ronald, who passed the chair in the order named, while the last three were Tassel, Kismet, and Millington. Doublon bolted soon after the start, and ran out. —“ Weekly Dispatch.” DUNEDIN BIRTHDAY MEETING. The Birthday Races took place to-day.
