The yacht Contrabantiere returned to port yesterday from Little Port Cooper, where she has been lying, the weather being too inclement for her to proceed. The s.s. Taiaroa arrived from Northern ports at 11 this morning, and sails on her return trip to-morrow. The s.s. Taupo sailed for Port Chalmers via Akaroa at 12.30 p.m. to-day. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Port Chalmers, May 22. Arrived—Alhambra, from Lyttelton. She left at 5.30 p.m. on the 20th. Encountered a terrific gale from the S.S.W., and heavy cross seas. Sighted the Taiaroa light at 9 p.m. on the 21st; slowed down for the night, and reached the heads at daylight. A strong S, W. gale is still prevailing. H kitika, May 22. Arrived —Albion. She left Sandridge at 3 p.m. on the 16th. Had moderate easterly weather throughout the trip. Passengers for Lyttelton—One in Bteerage, and 48 tons cargo. Auckland, May 21. Arrived—Arabella, barqne, from London, after a passage of 120 days. No passengers. Bluff, May 21. The s.s. Tararua left Melbourne on the 15th at 11 a.m.; experienced strong head weads to Swan Island ; then fine weather till arrival at the Blnff. She sails at 4 p.m. to-morrow for Dunedin. Passengers—Saloon : For Lyttelton—Mrs and Miss Disher; three steerage.
