AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Adelaide. —The “Observer” reports for the week ending April 25th: —The market has been characterised by great dullness during the whole of the week, and in the absence of any export orders, and the fact of the Easter holidays and arrival of the European mail, no business of any moment has been transacted. A few sales of farmers’ lots of wheat have been made at 5s 6d, and for craft parcels 5s 7d f.o.b. at Port Adelaide has been effected, but the business has been merely of a retail character. The market closes dull at from 5s 6d to 5s 7d for wheat, but buyers offer 5s 6d at Port Adelaide and 5s 4d at Port Piric jetty end. Flour also has been extremely dull. Town brands are offering at £l3 ss, and country at £l2 ss. Bran is firm and in good consumptive demand at from Is sdto Is 6d ; pollard, Is 6d. Now Zealand oats are scarce at ss. Capo oats for sea are in fair demand at from 5s 5d to 6s ; Cape barley, 4s 6d. The exports for the week eudiug April 20th were —Wheat, 1121 tous ; flour, 2382 tons, making a total exported for the year up to that date—wheat, 49,503 tons; flour, 24,244 tons. Melbourne.—The “Argus,” under date April 30th, says :—lu the import market business is still quiet, and unmarked by any appearance of activity. A very extensive auction sale was held this forenoon, and though at one time considerable dilticulty was experienced iu rousing up buyers, yet afterwards they warmed up somewhat, and ou the whole the sale turned out more successful than was at first anticipated. In breadstuff's a large business has beeu done iu wheat, and very extreme rates have been realised. At the auction sales 1900 bags were disposed of; for prime quality 5s 8d was realised for 500 bags privately, aud by auction common to medium aud good realised os to 5s 4d aud 5s 61/1, while inferior was cleared ( ff at from 4s 2d to 4s Bd. At the close of business hours wo learn that a line of 1200 bags was taken up by oue buyer for shipment at 5s 71 d f.o.b. Flour is moving off at £ll 15s to £l2, aud sales are making privately at our quotation. Under the hammer some 50 tous good brands wore quitted iu one instance at £ll 15s to £l2, and abont 20 tons White’s flour sold at £ll 5s to £ll 7s 6d. In oats a very much firmer feeling has also boon evinced, and at the various auction sales fully 11,000 bushels found buyers at 4s 2d to 4s 8d for Victorian, and 4s 5d to 4s 91(1 for Tasmanian. Malting barley realised 5s 6d to 6s Id. Maize is moving at 4s to 4s 2d, according to sample. A considerable inquiry has beeu experienced for brewing sugars; 1100 pockets were placed at £35 10s. Several other parcels were also taken up at £34 110 s aud .£35 to £35 10s. A small parcel of flue white crystals was also placed at £3O 10s. Natal sugars were offered by auction, hut the biddings not proving satisfactory, the greater portion was withdrawn. Middling whites realised £34 10s to £34 15s, fine yellows £32 to £32 10s, low yellows £29 to £29 10s_, aud low to middling rations sold at £23 15s to £25. 100 casks crushed loaf brought £4O for Dutch. In teas a fair business has also been done. Publicly, 463 packages were quitted, ex Ocean, at lOd to Is 6Jd, while privately, 830 packages congou and gunpowder wore cleared off. 2CO half-chests ordinary congon brought Is, and a few trade sales ha ve been made at to Is 3d. 4890 packages first crop tea, ex Killaruey, will be submitted to competition on Friday next. Kerosene oil is moving at our quotation ot Is I’d; 1000 cases were disposed of by auction at our quotation. Sales of gunnies are mentioned at 6s 4}d. In liquids we learu of the sale of a small shipment of John Ross and Co.’s whisky at 4s 9d, aud there are still buyers at the price, COMMERCIAL TELEGRAMS, Dunedin, May 9.
