CHURCH MEETINGS.

HOLY TRINITY, LYTTELTON. Tho annual meeting of parishioners tcok place at the Church of England schoolroom, Lyttelton, the incumbent, tho Rev. Mr Townsend, in tho chair. The chairman stated that ho had to express a debt of gratitude to the people of Ly ttelton for the great kindness shown to him during tho ten months he had been in the parish. Tho parishioners’ churchwarden, Mr T. A. W. Faisons, stated that he was sorry tho annual statement of accounts had not been completed in time to be duly audited. Ho proceeded to give a few general particulars regarding them. Mr Sopp moved that tho meeting adjourn to May 10th, as the balance-sheet was not audited. Tho motion, however, was lost, the meeting preferring to elect the parish officers at once. Dr. Donald was chosen by the clergyman as his churchwarden, and Mr T. A. W. Parsons was re-elected parishioners’ churchwarden. The following were elected vestrymen ;—Messrs W. L, Edge, W. B. Allwright, H. Hawkins, H. N. Nalder, H. Allwright, and A. B. W. Parsons. Dr. Donald proposed a vote of thanks to tho choir, highly complimenting them on their work during the past year. This was seconded by Mr Sopp, and carried with acclamation. Votes of thanks to the ladies who had decorated the church at Christmas and Easter, and to tho superintendent and teachers of the Sunday school were passed. Tho latter was responded to by Mr H. R. Webb, who urged strongly upon tho meeting tho urgent want of more help in tho work. He stated further that it had been decided to add four rooms to the present building. A sum of £228 13s Gel being available for the work, tho vestry had accepted tho tender of Messrs Sidtonand Weastall for £lB5. The remainder of the money would bo spent in fencing round tho building, &c. The building would be commenced next week, or the week after. Mr Webb then gave an account of the work done in the schools during tho year, attendance, &e. In conclusion, he moved a warm vote of thanks to the ladies who had helped by collecting subscriptions and doing other work. Carried with acclamation. A vote of thanks to the officers of tho church for the past year was carried unanimously. Dr. Donald, in proposing the chairman, spoke very warmly of the rev. gentleman’s work in the parish, and the great good he had done since he had been in charge. The Rev. Townsend responded, the vote being enthusiastically carried. Messrs W. H. Lance and R. Cotton were elected auditors, and the meeting adjourned to 7.30 p.m. on Friday, May 10th, when tho accounts will be passed.
