INTERPROVINCIAL. [PEB PBESB AGENCY.] Taubanga, April 6. The census returns show the European population to be 2944; acres under grass and crop, 17,620. Oi er 9000 bushels wheat were grown in Tauranga this seasonCaetebton, April 6. A large sawmill at Taratahi, owned by Stewart Bros., was destroyed by fire at an early hour this morning. It is supposed to have caught fire accidentally. The loss is estimated at £3OOO. Hokitika, April 6. In Evan's trial for murder the jury, after being locked up all night, could|not agree to a verdict. They were equally divided on the issue. The jury were discharged, and the Court adjourned till the 20th of April. Invehcabgill, April 6. Sir J. Coode inspected the New river harbour to-day, and without expressing an opinion one way or another, said he presumed the chief object at present was to do away with the shoal water in the vicinity of the jetty. He left per rail en route for Dunedin in the afternoon. He will stay at Clinton tonight, and be in Dunedin to-morrow forenoon, having on the score of duty abandoned his intention of taking a trip to Lake Wakatipu.
