COMMERCIAL.

The Customs revenue collected here on Tuesday, 26th March, amounted to £837 9s sd. The items were:—Spirits, £132 5s 3a; wine, £42 5s Id ; ale, 6s; tobacco, £25 17s 6d; tea, £34 12s ; coffee, lls 3d ; sugar, £268 10a 5d ; goods by weight, £BB j ad valorem, £lO5 6s; other duties, £139 16s lid, AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne.— The “ Argus ” of March 19th reports:—ln the import market, a fair amount of business has been transacted. Breadstuff's have not been marked by much animation. Flour is moving at our quotation of £lllos to £ll 12s 6d, sales having been made at both rates, but only in trade parcels. Wheat is quoted at 5s 4d for good milling parcels, but transactions have been unimportant. The quantity received by rail from the country districts of both wheat and flour is still large, and naturally enough this has a depressing eflect on the martet. Oats are going olf very slowly indeed. Good heavy New Zealand have been placea at 4s Bd, but otherwise we are without any business to report. Maize is quoted at 6s to 6s 3d, Sugars have a very free demand. A transaction in whites has been eifected at a full price. 300 bags of grainy brewers’ have been placed at £34 to £34 103. 300 bags of good yellows have also been sold at up to £32 10s. Holders generally look for a further advance, owing to the favorable accounts to hand. Advices from Mauritius have been received by recent arrivals to Ist February. 118,000 tons of the present crop had been made, and about 10,000 tons were to come in; 104,000 tons had been shipped and cleared, and there were about 20,000 tons in store. For Australia and New Zealand there had been a good demand, and the stock of nne whites, yellows, and brewing crystals in first hands was then very small. Quotations ruled—For whites, at 14rtol5'8or; yellows, 12 70r to 15r; brewing crystals, at 13'50r to 14'50r ; browns, at li'SOr to 12'our; rations, at lOr to ll’SOr. Freights were quoted at 22s 6d, and 5 per cent, to Adelaide or Meloourue. Exchange on London was quoted at 11 per cent, premium, and on Australia 8 to 9 per cent, was the ruling rate for document bills, 60 days sight. Teas are without any special business to notice, bales of lingfish have been made at extreme rates; 6£d was ottered in a line for 300 oases, but refnseu; the parcel has since been distributed at bjd to 7d. A line of 200 cases Marett’a brandy has been sold on private terms. Sales of Hennessy’s, Otard’s, and Renault's, in bulk, are also reported to have been made at full rates for trade parcels.
