[BY SUBMARINE CABLE.] [beuteb'stblegbams to the PBESS AGENCY.] Russia Refuses to Reduce the War Indemnity. London, March 21. The Emperor of Russia refuses to reduce the indemnity of three hundred million roubles demanded from Turkey.

Both bring numerous Chinese, and a large shipment of rice and opium. The Wakatipu's potatoes reduced the market 9s. The figure now is £5, Breadstuffs are easier. There is an active market for New Zealand* produce. New Zealand miners are proceeding to New Guinea. The Albert Russell arrived from New York with kerosene, and the Hopeful, from Manilla, with hemp. INTERPROVINOIAL. [PBB PBBSS AGKNCY.] Auckland, March 22. H.M.S. Nymphe, with the Governor, returned from the Thames at half-past four. He attends an operatic concert to-night. The Governor, with Lady Normanby and Colonel Whitmoro, will go to the Waikato on Monday. They will vieit Hamilton, Cambridge, and probably Alexandra. Mackay met his creditors. Fifty were present. The trustee said the estate had yielded 7s fid in the £ to creditors included ia the first deed of agreement. Mackay stated that the stoppage of the land purchases had deprived him of commission which would have accrued. He received £2105 in February, all of which, with the exception of £405 retained for personal expenses, had been remitted to the trustee. The Government still retained £4308 until vouchers were produced. In response to a resolution passed Mackay made an assignment of the estate, which will be divided, 7s fid in the £ to creditors who did not participate in the former dividend, the balance to be divided equally amongst all creditors. | At the inquest on the men drowned at Kaipara a verdict of accidental death was returned. Westpobt, March 22. A tremendous squall from the south-west struck the upper part of the town last night, oompletely demolishing Stewart's Brewery, besides doing other damage. Hokitika, March 22. John Howe Hamer, late agent of the Bank of New Zealand at Ross, was committed at the R.M. Court to the Supreme Court on three charges of embezzlement of Bank funds. There are six other charges being proceeded with, on all of which it is thought committals will take place. The total amount discovered short is a little over £IOOO. The defalcations commenced last March. At various times since Hamer granted fixed deposit receipts, not entering the amount in the cash book. There are also amounts which were entered in the customers' pass books and initialled, but which never went through the books of the Bunk.
