MUFF CRICKET MATCH.

Lyttelton v. CniusTcnußcn. A game of cricket was played yesterday on the U. 0.0. ground between two teams of muffs, captained respectively by the Mayor of Lyttelton and the Mayor of Christchurch. The latter won the toss, and sent his men to the wickets, and they were not disposed of until they had made 149, or which Mann contributed 47 and Briggs 20. The fielding of the Lyttelton muffs fully upheld their claim to the title, though the bowling of Hawkins and Rogers was far above the average. A fine catch was made by Captain Cook, of the Inchgieen, for the Lyttelton muffs, and the bold mariner more than once impeded the passage of the ball by considerately lying down in front of it. The Lyttelton men then went to the wickets, and soon ran up 98, of which O’Grady contributed 47 for a wellplayed innings. The mercantile marine was not fortunate, its two representatives both failing to score. Hawkins played a good innings for his 19, the rest being all single figures. In their second innings Christ church p»ut together 104, Briggs contributing 26 and B. Hale 15. The Lyttelton men again went in, but at the time appointed for drawing the stumps had scored 64 for seven wickets. The match was therefore decided on the first innings, which gave the victory to Christchurch by 51 runs. Mr Maples provided a capital luncheon, and at the close of the game the healths of the respective teams were duly honored. The Lyttelton men challenged the Christchurch men to pull them with their heaviest weights a two-mile race in Lyttelton harbor at an early date. Altogether a very pleasant day was spent.
