KAIAPOI REGATTA COMMITTEE.

A meeting of this committee was held at the Kaiapoi Borough Council Chamber on Monday evening. Nine members were present, Dr. Dudley, commodore, in the chair. The Secretary stated that he had acknowledged receipt of handsome subscriptions and letters, wishing the regatta every success, from Messrs C. C. Bowen and T. I. Joynt. Letters were read from the Railway Department naming the terms for a special train, and agreeing to make the return fares from all stations to Kaiapoi on the day of the Regatta at single rates. It was considered that, as the Government had lately discontinued the grant to the Regatta funds, it might have given the committee a special train without requiring a guarantee. On the motion of Mr Macfarlane, seconded by Mr Burnip, it was resolved “ That the secretary arrange for a special train leaving Christchurch at 11 a.m., and returning from Kaiapoi at 12 p.m., if the committee can have the benefit of the fares over £lO 10s, the amount of the guarantee required.” It was resolved “ That a ball be held in the Oddfellows’ Hall under the auspices of the committee.” The commodore reported that Mr Monk would allow the committee to make its head-quarters on his wharf; Mr Monk also intended to run the p.s. Tongariro after each race. The treasurer hoped that collectors would make an effort to obtain subscriptions at once, and enable him to pay the prizes immediately after the races. It was resolved that the committee contribute £5 towards a brass band, Mr Burnip to engage the same. The committee then adjourned till Thursday evening, when the entries will be received.
