Last night a large tire occurred, extending over half an acre of ground. Grubb's bark-mills, Risby's sawmills, Oiler's and Solomon and Fisher's coal and timber yards were destroyed. The other properties, including the shipping, were saved. The damage is estimated at #1.2,000. INTERPROVINCIAL. [PEB PBEBB AGENCY.] Nelson, March 9. A seaman named Patrick Flynn, belonging to the barque Woodbine, from Newcastle, fell off the wharf last night when in liquor, and was drowned. Timaeu, March 9. About 8 o'clock this morning David McOaoken, a prisoner just sentenced to six months at the criminal session of the District Court for the larceny of a saddle, whilst at work with the hard labor gang west of the the town belt, bolted during the temporary absence of one of the warders. He has been re-captured, hiding in a haystack at Mr Wilson's farm, behind Timaru public school. Balcltjtha, March 8. Sir G. Grey and party left Clinton this morning at ten o'clock, and on arrival were met by the Mayor and Councillors. On arrival at the hetel, the Town Clerk read an address to Sir G. Grey on behalf of the Borough Council and inhabitants of Balclutha and the Clutha district. The address expressed deep sympathy with Sir G. Grpy's political views, and his efforts in the cause or til? people, and assured him that the sentiments of the people of the colony, as a whole, were with him. Sir G. Grey, in replying, assured them that he would put forth every effort for the good of the country.
