CABLE_NEWS [beuteb’s tbleqeams to the press agency.] T H E~WA 11. London, March 1. A brigade of the Guards has been placed on a war footing. The Channel Squadron is at Malta. Sir Stafford Northcote, in reply to a question, said the Government were not in possession of information regarding the peace conditions between Russia and Turkey, but if found injurious to British interests the Government were fully prepared to vindicate its rights. The United States Silver Coinage Bill has been passed, on reconsideration, by a twothirds majority of the Senate, on Thursday, setting aside the Presidential veto, and it becomes law. AUSTRALIA. Meluoubne, March 1. It is admitted by Ministers that the cable message to the Governor contained a reservation requiring him to keep within the law in accepting the advice of Ministers, It is rumoured that the Governor has intimated that he will not without further advice act on the resolution passed by the Assembly on the seventh ultimo.
