Our surmise regarding the name of the vessel ashore at the Amuri Bluff proved correct. The Tui, s s., on her return from that place on Saturday'morning brought the news that it was Major Hornbrook's Excelsior. We mentioned in Friday's issue that Captain Dunsford, acting for the Insurance Companies, went to Amuri by the Tui on Thursday evening. On arrival he visited the wreck, and found the vessel so much injured that it, had to be abandoned. Built at Hobart Town in 1869, the Excelsior was for s me years used as a lighter in Lytt«lton; but when Ughters ceased to be a requirement of the port owing to the increase of wharf accommodation, she was sold to Major Hornbiook, who employed her in carrying limestone from the Amuri *U«ff to the Heathcote Biver. Captain Pain, the master, reports tnat on February 1-iih the wind being N.E. and a nasty jobble of a sea running, her chain suddenly parted, and she wpnt ashore on the rock?-. Owing to the set of the sea and the quarter from which the wiDd was coming, it w&b found impossible to get her off, and ehe commenced to break up verylspeedily. The master and crew got saitly on shore, and on the 15th saved saUs, spurs, gear. <fcc. The crew returned to Port in the schooner Bee on Saturday.
