DUNEDIN TRAINING NOTES. [By Telegraph,] FEOM THE COEEESPONDENT OF THE PEESS.J Dunedin, February 16.
“Pegasus,” in the “ Star,” says the course this morning was a little soft after yesterday’s heavy rain. Ray was first out with Templeton and Titania, and he sent the pair in clothing a steady canter twice round outside the hurdles. Punga were were arrived overland this forenoon in charge of Rowlands, and joined her stable companions at Allan’s. French took Hippocampus and Izaak Walton on to the beach, and, stripping the Cup favorite, gave him a good twa-mile gallop. Izaak Walton went a quiet canter in clothing. Mr Walters informed mo that lie received a telegram last evening, stating that Kingfisher had dislocated a fetlock joint while running at the Waikato races yesterday, so that the racing days of this elder brother to Izaak Walton and Hippocampus are over. Wattie, with Cloth of Gold, and Mason, with Oberon and Atlantic, were on the course. The former was stripped and sent twice round slowly, with the others in clothing. Unknown did only walking exercise. Goodman took Chancellor, Maligner, and Satirist on to the beach. The Cup horse was unclothed and sent a strong two miles, the Chesnut colt joining in and finishing the last half mile with him. Chancellor is going very well. He is advancing steadily in the betting market. Satirist had a canter by himself. S. Powell made his first appearance with the steeplechaser, Shillelagh, a useful looking horse, but who was very unlucky at the Christchurch Meeting in being canoned against, and thrown out of the steeplechase. He merely cantered on the tan, which example was followed by Starlight, with Callaghan up. Haynes took Kildare three times round, outside the hurdles, at a medium pace, and Tom Cotton gave Little Dan good work, taking him round the tan three or four times and over a few hurdles. Derritt arrived from the North yesterday with Lima, Xantippe, and Eclipse, and proceeded to O’Brien’s old quarters at Porter’s Hotel. His trio did not show up this morning. He will be working on Monday. The betting market has experienced some startling changes since the Cup acceptances came out. Hippocampus is still hardening in price, having oven touched 2 to 1, but ho may be quoted at 5 to 2. Ariel has come with a rush, and 5 to 1 is the best offer against him, but it is merely a fancy price. Titania is in demand, and last night was backed for a few hundreds at 10 to 1, and more at that figure was wanted, but was not forthcoming. The list of quotations is : 5 to 2 agst Hippocampus 5 to 1 agst Ariel 8 to 1 agst Longlands 9 to 1 agst Titania 9 to 1 agst Templeton 100 to 10 agst Orange Lightning 100 to 8 agst Pungawerewere 100 to 7 agst Chancellor 100 to 6 agst Cloth of Gold 100 to 5 agst any other,
