CABLE NEWS THE WAR. ([SPECIAL TELEGRAM TO THE “ ARGUS.”] Anti-Russian Feeling in Roumania; Russians Close to Constantinople* British Fleet in the Dardanelles. Russian Demands. Great Excitement in England. London, February 14. The anti-Russian feeling in Roumania is increasing. Every able-bodied man is preparing to mobilize. It is reported that there have been massacres of Christians in Bessarabia and in Crete. The Greeks are intensely indignant. Numerous foreign deputations are arriving at Rome for the Pope’s funeral, [agent-geneeal’s telegram.] London, February 14, 3.50 p m. The Russians are closed to Constantinople, and threaten the occupation of it if the English fleet enters the Dardanelles. The fleet entered the Dardanelles yesterday* despite the protest of Turkey, which is now more Russian than English. Russia, among other terms' of peace, demands a portion of Bessarabia, which may involve complications with Austria and Roumania. There is general excitement here. INTKRPROYINCIAL. [pee peess agency.] February 16. Messrs Pearce, Hutchison, and G. E. Barton were nominated to-day for the House of Representatives. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Barton. Dunedin, February 16. It is expected that the procession tomorrow of those pereops who have taken the
total abstinence pledge from Father Hcnr.ebery in Dunedin will number over two thousand.
