Dr Turnbull has forwarded the following letter to the " Press " for publication : Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, February 9th, 1878. Sir,—l have been directed by the Colonial Secretary to address yon, as the chairman of the late Hospital staff, who wrote a letter to the Government containing charges against Mr Donald Campbell, and to acquaint you, for the information of the other gentlemen who joined you in the letter, that the Koyal Commission which was appointed to enquire into those charges, while after an exhaustive examination, it did not find all the details of the complaint to be accurate, came to a conclusion so unfavorable to Mr Campbell that the Colonial Secretary, in acquainting that gentleman with the decision upon the sth instant, felt bound to call upon him to resign his appointment on the Hospital staff. I am further directed now to transmit to you the extract from the report of the Royal Commission, which sums up and decides the main question, and which has rendered it necessary to take this serious step with regard to Mr Camphell, and to ask you and the other gentlemen who signed the letter of the 31st July last, whether, under these circumstances, you will think proper to withdraw your resignations, and once more give the public the advantage of your services at the Hospital. In conclusion, I am to express to you, and through you to the other gentlemen, the thanks of the Government for having brought the subject to their notice. I have the honor to be, sir, Your most obedient servant, G. S. Cooper, Under Secretary. To J. S. Turnbull, Esq., M.D., Christchurch.
