THE WELLINGTON RACES. This Day's Racing. [PEB PBBRB AGENCY.] Wellington, February 8. The Governor arrived at about 12.30. The weather is beautiful, and there are twice as many people on the ground as there were yesterday. HURDLE HANDICAP. There was a capital race between To Whetu and Shark. All the horses jumped splendidly, but Te Whetu had the best place at the ’second hurdle. Grey Momus fell, throwing Mclvor, his rider, who seems badly hurt. He got up and mounted immediately, but no sooner had ho done so than he fell off quite helpless. At the finish Shark ran Te Whetu very close, being dogged hard, but Te Whetu won by two lengths, Shark second, Victor third. It is discovered that Mclvor, though stunned, is not seriously hurt. CUP. This was a wonderfully good race, a hot pace being kept up from start to finish. Lara jumping away with the lead after several false starts, kept it throughout, but was very hard pressed by Trump Card and Otupai. There was tremendous excitement when the horses entered the straight, deafening cries of Lara being raised. Eight started, Lara won by about a length, Trump Card, 2 ; Otupai, 8 ; but there was so little difference between them that there was much uncertainty as to the placing of the horses.
