AQUATICS.
PRACTICE FOR THE COLONIAL REGATTA. [By Telegraph.] [eeoim the correspondent op the press.] ■Wanganui, February 6. The ‘Wellington men went out at 10.30 a.m., going away with a steady stroke, which lias always been too slow. Their finish was not very good,, Having had to row against the tide, they appeared to have had quite enough when they reached the shed. The Canterbury men could not get out this morning, as, just as they left the platform, one of the pins on the No- 2 outrigger gave way, so they had to put back for repairs. They went out again at 6.30 p.m., starting in their usual careful style. If bow, 2, and 3 would only swim? more, it would make a wonderful difference. No. 3is also late some times in catching the water, the result being that the time is not good. It is strange that when this crew turn their boat homewards she travels much better. To-night, they rowed 36 tho whole way, pulling as clean a stroke as could be wished. Neither crew could got out this afternoon, the water being too rough, and it was also raining. Tho rain has stopped, but the weather still looks threatening. When the Canterbury crew left this evening it was raining. The Canterbuiys are the favourites for the championship.
