ROAD BOARDS.

HEATH COTE. Tlio ordinary meeting of the aboro Board was held on Thursday, the 24th insfc., at the Board ofliee, Ferry road, at '.' p.m. Present —Messrs W. Attwood (chairman), W. ITawker, B. Clejihune, J. Sandford, and T. Q. Moule.—The Chairman reported that he, in company with Messrs Hawker and Clephano, had waited on the Commissioner of Audit (J. E. Fitzgerald, Esq ), and the matters in dispute with the boro'ugh oi' Sydenham had been suhmitted for his decision. The Commissioner, after hearing both parties, had decided that the objections of the borough could not be allowed, and that the liabilities must lie borne pro rata by the borough. The right or otherwise of the Borough Council (o a share in the surplus land revenue he woidd submit to Wellington, and let both parties lenw the result. Also that he had seen the Commissioner that morning, and from enquiries he (the Commissioner) had made, he had decided that the Borough Council had a right to a share of the sura received since Oifl severance on account of the land fund.—The Clerk reported the receipts to be £6L 4s 3d for the fortnight; also that he completed tho

valuation list for 1878, and that it was open for inspection. Messrs Hawker, Sandford, and Moule were appointed works committee, and Messrs Attwood, Olephane, and Hawker finance committee. The first-named of each to bo chairman. —Tho following correspondence was read and considered from Hon. G. Buckley re Lyttelton and Heathcote recreation trustees.—After some discussion, it was decided to let the matter stand over for the present.—From R. Eose, re boundary of public road at Sumner.—This to stand over tor the present, so that the new members can see the place and form an opinion.—From Commissioner of Audit. —The chairman was authorised to p:iy the amount due to the borough of Sydenham as soon as it was ascertained. — Accounts amounting to £304 Os 2d were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
