The barque Glencoe, Captain Carey, from Bate, man's Bay, N.S.W., via Gore Bay, arrived to-day-It appears she has aboard timber for the Hurunui bridge which was to be landed at Gore Bay, but after laying there for 17 days, and there being no facilities for her discharge, she came on here. The 8.8. Kotorua, with the San Francisco mail aboard, arrived at 7.30 a.m. to-day, and sailed South The Fawn sailed from Newcastle for this port on the 14th inst. _ _ . , The American barque Lorna Dooue has been chartered at Hobart Town by Mr H. B. Evans, to load timber for Lyttelton. She was expected to leave about the 29th inst. The circus business must be very profitable, when Buch a large outlay is required and can be paid for transportation from place to place. The following appears in a Melbourne exchange:— Wanted to cnarter a steam or Bailing ship for a trip from Auckland New to Callao, South America, to carry Cooper and Bailey's menagerie and circus, consisting of about one hundred tons of freight, twenty horses, six elephants, six camels, nine ponies, fourteen cages, seven waggons, &c.,&c Must be competent to accommodate forty nrstclass cabin passengers, and twenty steerageSteamer must be from 700 to 1000 tons register, and ship from 1000 to 1500." THE ST BANDING OF THE HUON BELLE. An inquiry, under "The Inquiry into Wreck* Act, 1869," was held at Hampden, before T. W. Parker Esq., 8.M., assisted by Captain Mutheson, as Nautical Assessor, into the circumstance--attending the stranding- of the ketch Huon Belle, of Dunediu, 42 tons register, at Moeraki, on the 16th instant. The evidence of tha master, Ko en Hughes, the mate, William Lynchin, and Capful Sewell was taken, the -estimony showing that the ketch, on leaving Kokauui, bouud for Dunediu, on the evening of the disaster, iouled the south pier, and carried away her jibbooin and starboard cathead No steps were taken to secure the broken (rear 'and the weather looking threatening, she put into'Moeraki for shelter, and in letting go the anchors thev fouled the jibb om gear, neither anchor fetching bottom, and tho vessel drifted ashore. It was then very dark, and the vessel cam e broadside on against the railway viaduct, thumping against which and the ground started some of the holts, the vessel filling and the cargo- 130 bales wool—being completely saturated. She has since been got off and temporarily repaired, and will proceed to Dunedin on the first slant of wind. The Court decided to suspend the master's certificate for six months. The hull of the vessel was insured in the Standard office for £6OO, and the cargo in the South British for £I4OO and the National for £IOOO. SHIPPING TELEGBAMS. Auckland, January 25. There are thirty »assengers all well, fhe brings three thoroughbred Brood mares, all in foal, from Newmarket to toe order of Mr Fergusson, of Waikato. The names of the mares are Dundee, Kitty, and Lockett.
