Further Turkish Reverses.

Prospects of England being Involved. London, January 12. The Russians took eight thousand prisoners and ninety guns at the surrender of Niesa. Anitvari surrendered on Thursday with twenty-eight thousand men and a thousand and ninety-two guns. The town of Shipka was also captured. It is probable that Adrianople will be abandoned and the Turks retreat on the lines of Tcbekemedcha. The civil Government of Adrianople is to be removed to Rodosta. It is alleged that the Russian military authorities are adverse to an armistice. Proposals are made having in view the occupation of Adrianople and Gallipolis. England has protested against the nonfulfilment of the promise that an order will be sent to the Russian Commander-in-Chief to treat for an armistice without previous stipulations with reference to peace conditions. The Daily News regards this as the beginning of an intrigue to involve England in war. There have been three Cabinet Councils this week. A change of Ministers in Greece is proable.

London, January 12, The Grand Duke Nicholas has replied to Raouff Pasha that all negotiations must be direct with him. An armistice is impossible without the basis of peace conditions being first settled. Nissa, a fortified town south of Widdin, has capitulated. The Russian troops have arrived at Yeni Saghra and Barodjik, two positions south of the Balkans. The Christian population has been ordered to leave Adrianople. A new Turkish Ministry has been formed, Hamet Pasha being Grand Vizier and Sellet Pasha Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Political Crisis in Victoria. Meibouekb, January 12, It is rumored that unless there is a speedy settlement of the dispute, both Chambers of the Legislatures will be dissolved. A dissolution of the Assembly is expected early in March. At a Cabinet meeting on Monday next, Mr Berry will probably submit the names of certain officers in the department under his jurisdiction for dismissal. The services of twelve school inspectors have been dispensed with. Further changes in the Railway and Public Works departments are contemplated. It is stated that a Bill to reform the Council is being drafted. This will be the first measure submitted to Parliament on its meeting on the sth of February. Should the Council reject the measure the Government will appeal to the country on the grounds that the Legislative Council refuses self-reformation.
