The French Ministry have superseded several Generals. This action, it is believed? has reference to an intended coup d’etat. AUSTRALIAN. Death of Edward Wilson. Melbouene, January 12. There has been no fresh development of the political crisis. Mr Edward Wilson, of the “Argus,” has died in London. Sydney, January 12. The Postmaster-General, replying to a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, approved of the route of a duplicate cable from Western Australia to Singapore, and hinted at the desirability of obtaining assistance from other Colonial Governments. Auckland, January 12. The explosion of a kerosene lamp last night led to the destruction of two cottages at Onehunga, the property of W. Stevenson. ■Wellington, January 12. It has been settled that the portfolios to bo held by Mr Eallance will be those of Minister of Education and Commissioner of Customs. Government have proclaimed the Wellington Anniversary Day a public holiday. A A “ Gazette Extraordinary” just issued, announces that Parliament stands further prorogued to 29 th March next. Three thousand young salmon leave here to-day to be placed in the Wanganui river. The salmon are from Christchurch.
