The race horse Magician has been sold byMr Buckland to Mr R. Kelly for £4OO. Messrs Guthrie and Larnach have purchased the vessels belonging to Howard, and trading to the West Coast, including the Amaranth, Atlantic, Fiery Cross, and the ketch Wild Duck.

Vare's Harbor-view Restaurant and wharf were totally destroyed by fire early this morning. Although a two story building was in close proximity, with other wooden houses, the efficiency of the brigade and water supply confined the fire to the building where it originated. The building was insui'ed for £3OO in the Norwich Union. The charred remains of the body of a man were discovered after the fire. His identity is not yet certain, he is believed to have been an old tramp. Gisbobne, January 4.

Mr Sheehan has telegraphed to the Mayor, stating that the Hinemoa, with Sir George Grey, will arrive here on Monday, and that public addresses will be made an hour after arrival. A meeting of Natives is to take place tonight to pass resolutions relating to grievances and wrongs to be submitted for redress on Monday to Sir G-eorge Grey and Mr Sheehan. On Tuesday morning the Hinemoa will leave for Wellington. Wellington, January 4.

The association, it is thought, will adopt the rules of the Victorian Society, under which a person can be buried plainiy for £2 15s, or with coach and pair for £3 15s. Gheymouth, January 5.

A largely attended meeting of the Greymouth Coal Company was held last evening. The present position and future prospects of the Company were fully discussed, and It was resolved that the capital should be increased by the issue of 8000 new shares of £1 each, £1 paid up. The directors were also authorised to mortgage the mine and plant for a sum not exceeding £4OOO, in order to secure themselves in giving their "joint and several" securities to the Bank for an overdraft to meet current expenses. It was generally understood that the directors would not find it necessary to exercise this power, but that the possession of it would facilitate their negotiations with the Bank. On all hands the greatest confidence in the ultimate success of the mine was expressed.^
