INTERPROVINCIAL. [PEE PBESB AGENCY.] Railway and Racecourse Accidents. Auckland, December 27. Land has been sold, next to the Bank of New Zealand, in Queen street, at £250 per foot. Sir George Grey returns from Kawau tomorrow, and with Natives visits the Thames on Saturday or Monday. The Native Minister visited the gaols and hospital to-day, and received several deputations relative to suburban matters. The Canterbury cricketers are being handsomely entertained. Yesterday they were conveyed to the races in a drag and four. At the Pukekohe races a horse bolted and ran amongst the spectators. Mr McOonnell had an arm broken, and Mr Mayes his collarbone broken. They were conveyed to the Hospital. Sir George Grey yesterday welcomed a party of excursionists at Kawau. A collision occurred to-day between a goods and a material train near Tayeri Tiakato. Considerable damage was done. One man's leg was broken, and another was much injured. Hokitika, December 27.
There is a large number of miners in town from the outlying districts, and it is said that about 10,000 ounces of gold hare been brought in from the district during the past week. The Banks have been very busy, and the hotels are crowded. Dunedin, December 27.
A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce waited izpon Messrs Macandrew and Larnach for the purpose of urging that the construction of the railway north and south of Dunedin should be vigorously prosecuted. The district engineer reported that the works are being pushed forward, and that the line to Christchurch will probably be completed in April. The Ministers Btated that attention would be paid to the representations of the deputation, and that no effort would be spared in having the lines to Invercargill and Christchurch ready for traffic at as early a date as possible.
[from the correspondent of the press.] Fatal Boating Accident. Dunedin, December 27. A man was drowned in Waihola Lake last night while boating with five others. The body has not been recovered. The Soldene Company's opening performance was immensely successful. " Genevieve " was played. Henry Brown has been arrested at Clyde for robbing his partner of a hundred ounces of gold, my proceeds of & washing up.
