AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the committee of the above association was held at the offices jesterday at 2.30 p.m. Present—-Hon. John Hall, Messrs Duncan, Henderson, Anderson, jun., Norman, Mcßeth, H. F. Gray, J. T. Ford. The Hon. John Hall occupied the chair, on the motion of Mr Norman. The date of the trial of the reaping and binding machines entered for the prize offered by the association was considered. On the motion of Mr Duncan, it was resolved that a sub-committee be appointed to select a field upon which the reapers were to be tried, and the date of such trial. The committee selected were Messrs Norman, Ford, Henderson, Wilkin, and J. R.Hill. The committee were also empowered to conclude all the necessnrv arrangements in connection with the trial, and to give notice of dale and place at as early a date as possible.

On the motion of Mr Duncan, the judges were appointed to act at the trial of the reapers and binders. A letter was read from Messrs Coates and Co., forwarding designs for a general medal for the association, combining the various industries for which prizes were offered by the association, instead of the separate medals now in use.

After some discussion, in the course of which some humorous remarks were made on the artistic designs submitted, the matter was remitted to Messrs Ford, Duncan, and the chairman to get a suitable design. On the motion of Mr Duncan, Messrs J. Anderson, J. T. Ford, A. Duncan, R. Wilkin, and Hon. J. Hall were appointed as a subcommittee to select prize books and send the order home to England. Mr Ford moved —"That the President, Vice-President, Messrs R. Wilkin, P. C. Threlkeld, J. Mann, W. Henderson, and the mover, be appointed as a sub-committee to make the necessary arrangements for the ensuing ram and ewe fair, to be held on 14th and 15th March, and that, as the time is limited, the instructions of the sub-committee be handed to the secretary as early as possible, and the advertisement issued at once on their reception." Mr Duncan seconded the motion, which was agreed to. It was resolved that Mr Wilkin be requested to get out the foiirth volume of the " Herd Book" about the end of March next, and that the secretary issue an advertisement requesting breeders to send in their entries as early as possible ; also, that owners wishing to have portraits of their animals in the book forward applications to the secretary. The meeting then adjourned.
