Death by DEOWNiNa— The following particulars of a recent fatal accident at Greymouth wharf are given by the “Argus”:— Shortlyfafter ‘midnight one of the crew of the schooner Eliza Eirth named Charles Stanley whilst attempting to board his vessel fell from the gangway into the river just under the vessel’s bow. One of his mates jumped in to the rescue, but it was of no avail, the man having been swept away. The gangway was most unsafe, particularly as the vessel, it being low tide, was deep below the wharf. It was set askew and one or more oi the battens on it were off. The man who attempted to rescue him had a narrow escape.
