POLITICAL INCIDENTS.
FRESH FINANCIAL DISCOVERY. EARLY MEETING- OE THE HOUSE SUGGESTED. [PEB PRESS AGENCY.] Wellington, December 12. This evening's " Argus " says—"We are informed that it is the intention of the Minister for Native Affairs to soon visit the Patea country, in order to bring the affair of the Waimate Plains to a conclusion. It has been stated to us that there is no intention on the part of the Government to give up the Plains to the Natives." Napier, December 12. The reception committee have made arrangements to receive Sir Geo. Grey, Mr Sheehan, and Mr Macandrew in great style. A procession will be formed in Clive square and proceed, headed by a band, to the Spit, where they will receive Sir Geo. Grey and the other Ministers on landing, and conduct them to a carriage, which will be drawn by six grey horses. The procession will return to Napier by Shakespeare road, and, after going through the principal streets congregate in Clive square, where an address will be presented to Sir George. Besides Europeans of the town and country districts "about a thousand Maoris are expected to be present. The latter will treat Sir Geo. Grey to a display of hakas, war dances, &c. It is expected that Sir Geo. will address a public meeting in the evening. Auckland, December 12. At a public meeting held to-day a large and influential committee was appointed to prepare a suitable reception to Sir Geo. Grey and the Auckland members who supported him.
