The resolutions were considered tserlatam. On clause 1, Rev. C. Fraser moved that the word “Board” be omitted and the word “committee” substituted in lieu thereof. Mr Malet seconded the motion. Mr Yeel spoke against it, as the probability was that the word “committee” would clash with their own standing committees. He would much rather see the word Board retained as originally drafted in the_ resolutions. He should therefore vote against the proposed alteration. Mr Fereday agreed with Mr Yeel as to the inadvisability of the word “committee.” He would move us a further amendment that the word “ Council” bo substituted. Rev. C. Fraser’s amendment was withdrawn, and the word “ Board” having been struck out, the word “Council” was substituted throughout the resolutions, and the clause as amended agreed to. Clause 2, with the sub-sections a, b, c and d, was agreed to. On clause 3 being put, Mr Webb, for Mr Hamilton, moved that the following be substituted for the clause : “That the Professorial Council consist of two members of the Board of Governors, ta be elected annually by the Board of Governors,

and of the Professors, with the addition of one lecturer elected annually by the lecturers.” Dr. Coward seconded the motion, which was put and negatived. The clause, as printed, was then passed. Clause 4 was then put and agreed to. The whole resolution was then carried. PETITION. Rev. C. Eraser presented a petition from the Yen. Archdeacon Dudley and a number of other residents in Rangiora, respecting the charge made for pupils travelling on the Railway to the Girls’ High School. It was pointed out that the fare had been increased from £3 per annum to £22, The petition prayed that the Board would use its influence with the Government to have the fares reduced to the former rate. The petition was received and read. Rev. C. Eraser said he would give notice of motion—“ That the Board of Governors apply to the Government to reduce the fares as requested by the petitioners.” After some discussion, Rev. 0. Fraser moved the suspension of the standing orders, in order that the petition be considered at once. Mr Yeel moved as an amendment —“That the petition be referred to the College committee, with instructions to them to take steps to carry out the object sought to be obtained if possible.” Mr Webb seconded the amendment. After some discussion Mr Yeel withdrew his amendment, and Rev.C.Eraser’s motion for suspension of the standing orders was agreed to. Mr Potts suggested that it would be much better to communicate with the chairman at once by telegram on the subject, and get him to bring his influence to bear on the Government. Mr Mallock quite agreed with this course. Rev. 0. Eraser moved —“ That the Board make application to the Government, through its chairman, for a reduction of fares on the railway lines to pupils attending the Girls’ High School, and also students attending the Canterbury College.” Mr Webb seconded the motion, which was agreed to.
